6. Illusion of Control

My mom, who is a dog person, insists that only dogs have masters — cats have staff. My two don't seem to agree on the issue; the alpha female certainly thinks she's the boss, and lets me know in no uncertain terms when I violate the unspoken agreement, if I fail to ask permission before leaving town or I bring home substandard, unapproved kitty litter or anything else not cleared through channels. The other accepts her subordinate place in the hierarchy.
